VII The Chariot

VII The Chariot
Yet another departure from traditional imagery but who knows, if there'd been knowledge of flying saucers in the fourteenth century then maybe they'd have used one in the deck and maybe they'd have used it right here, in position VII. I love this image because it takes the traditional sense of giving it up to knowingness and propels it just a little step farther. A team of horses, after all, limits your possibilities to earth travel but a spaceship...the potential is universal.
Now I've thought about this. Horses have minds of their own and can carry on quite capably without you holding the reigns but you do actually have to 'drive' a spaceship...or do you? And that's my point. We don't really know, at least most of us don't really know. I imagine ships such as this one to be guided by the desires and intentions of the passenger/s which makes this a perfect image for a card whose purview is allowing.
You're in good hands when The Chariot arrives, and those hands are in your pockets. The chariot is where you sit when the do-ing is over and the unfolding begins and you sit back and let it happen. Of course, it can also show up at your door when you need to be reminded of that.
I often recollect, when I think about The Chariot, the romantic comedy, Joe and the Volcano. Joe and the Volcano is a minor masterpiece, a film that got dissed by critics and overlooked by audiences, perhaps because it was ahead of its time. It is one of my favorite movies ever. For reasons I will not divulge here, Joe, approaching the end of the film, finds himself in a position where he is choosing to sacrifice himself to the angry island god that inhabits a threatening volcano. After much ceremony, dressed in a tuxedo, surrounded by chanting, drumming islanders, Joe holds his drink aloft as if to toast his predicament and shouts, "Take me to the volcano."
The movie has a delightful, happy, and surprising ending.
Trust in your knowingness that you have done what needed to be done, (that part's important!), and the universe will support you.
