AETHER : VI CHOICE : Originally, as you may know, VI was The Lovers. It was a card that started simply enough, but through a very convoluted series of interpretations, ended up, in most decks, picturing a heterosexual couple standing in front of an angelic being, leaving its original meaning, choice, in the dust.

The first versions of VI showed a man standing between two women, ostensibly his mother and his lover or wife, as one was very old and the other, his age. Each woman had something to offer him and, presumably, each had given to him as well. One woman brought him in, the other would likely see him out. Where should his allegiance lie, he wondered. In this day and age, most of us have that figured out, but heaven knows, we’ve got choices available to us that our ancestors never had.

The two triangles of Six are often shown as intertwined and therefore, one. No choice involved, really. If you pick the thing that connects you to the earth and grounds you firmly into your destiny as a human being, you are still picking the thing that binds you to your Spirit Self and what it came here to do. There are no ‘wrong’ choices, there is only judgment assessing after the fact…and we all know how useful that is.
